This week marks "viability" for Coco! She's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts her at just over a pound. Since she's almost a foot long, she cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but her body is filling out proportionally and she'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
I'm still on weekly appointments and getting extra tests this week. In a few weeks, I'll be having another ultrasound to make sure that my blood pressure problems haven't caused Coco's growth to slow down. Based on the kicking I've felt lately, I'm not too worried, since the kicks are much stronger now! I also am sick right now, which is stressful for me, since I'm worried that the trouble I'm having breathing might be affecting Coco. Not to mention, I'm pretty miserable since I can only take a few things for my symptoms and none of them are really working (there's a reason I've never used any of them before--they don't work!) I haven't been able to sleep the last two nights because of my horrible cold, so it just keeps getting worse. Hopefully today is the last "bad" day for it. I also hope Jeff doesn't get it, since there's no way he could work long hours with this. And I hoping that I'm at least feeling better by Wednesday because we have our hospital tour on Wednesday evening, and I don't want to cancel. Here's me at 24 weeks. I looked back and realized I wore this shirt at 7 weeks and it didn't fit...this is the first time I've put it on since then, and it looks so different!
Just for fun, here's week 7 too.
