New computer
Sometime in the next few weeks I will be (FINALLY!) getting a new computer!! I have my search narrowed down to a Dell Studio 17 (if it is on sale when we get our tax return) or a Toshiba Satellite (A505-S6005). Both are more desktop replacements than portable little laptops, but since I am no longer a student, that's fine. I don't plan on taking them all over the place, but I just want to be able to bring them to another room or on a trip if I want. I don't care if it weighs a ton or is big then...after having old, slow desktop computers for so long, a new, fast laptop will be a nice change. The Dell has a bigger screen, which would be nice, but the Toshiba is cheaper and has nearly an 8 hour battery life! So if anyone has either computer and wants to weigh in, go for it...just keep in mind that I don't care so much about the portability, as the fact that it has a full keyboard, I don't need to attach anything to it (external harddrive or 10 key-pad or anything), and I really only need it for music, internet, and boring stuff like that (no gaming, work, etc.). So realllllly technical stuff, I won't care too much about, but if you've found/heard a horrible flaw in either one, then I'd like to know. I also think I will just have to get over the glossy screen thing (I don't like them...lights glare on them and they are too bright), because there aren't matte screens in my price range. Anyway, I am sooooo stinking excited to get a new computer! Our tax return better get here fast! We also get a new fridge when it gets here, which is something we've needed since day one at this house!

Dell has amazing customer service. I LOVE them.
ReplyDeleteBut, you could ask Matt or Philip to look at them. They're good with computery purchases.
I did have a friend of Jeff's and my bro-in-laws look at them. I ended up with the Toshiba because of price and immediate possession (instead of ordering). I was not, however, thrilled with Best Buy. The total came out higher by $20 than what I expected. The man read me each item individually, and I accepted that I did the math wrong. He handed me the receipt and looking over it, I found the $20...in Geek squad junk I don't want, but "must buy" with my computer. I'm over it now...just annoyed that when I specifically asked why it was higher, he did not tell me about those items.
