We're growing up
Jeff and I are looking for our first house! We know that the houses we can afford are going to need some work, but we are excited to find a home and make it into something of our own. It's hard because I can imagine myself in almost every home, and can picture what they would all look like fixed up...but its gonna take lots of hard work and lots of patience to get to that point with any of these homes. We've looked at three so far, and I am looking at 3 more today (Jeff can't miss more work, but I have the afternoon off). House #1 wa updated and newer looking than the others in our price range, but the work wasn't done well, and the garage was falling down the hill behind it. The kitchen only had ONE drawer and 3 cupboards. It simply would not work. House #2 we fell in love with from our drive-by and the neighborhood. The inside could be absolutely gorgeous with a LOT of work, but the wiring would have to be redone (it still has push button lightswitches), as well as the fuse box, and a small section of the roof. The toilet was falling through the floor, and the kitchen was the most hideous shade of aqua. They both need work. The landscaping is extremely overgrown, and all the carpet and flooring needs to be replaced. Still, I cannot help but absolutly love the house! I just know where it could go with some help. House #3 must have been used as a boarding house or something, because every bedroom door has a number and deadbolt on it. The spindles on the railing are gorgeous but about half are broken/missing. The woodwork is phenomenal and the house is HUGE. The front porch has several broken windows. The kitchen is hideous, but workable. The basement however...yuck! There is only a boiler, which means many expensive repairs or replacements in the future. The whole place needs new carpet, and the upstairs bathroom needs new tile and a tub since it is currently painted blood red. The attic however, is completely redone, and other than putting in better flooring, nothing would need to be done. We would NEVER have enough furniture to fill this house though...it is just so big! The three today are also large homes, two of which have recently been updated. Hopefully one of these six houses is "the one" because it is already going to be a dificult decision. Pray for us while we make this step...
